What a Day!

mtn2
Hi Friends,

Yesterday was such a great day! As I mentioned in the previous post, my hubby {who had just barely made it back to town the day before due to bad weather where he was working} and I took a little road trip up north to cheer our son on at his XC race. It was the last 5k race of the regular season and it was so thrilling to watch him get a PR (personal record) and place 3rd overall! Next Saturday is regions and he is hoping to finish in the top 10. You can do it, Son! 🙂

It was also pretty great getting to see Mt. McKinley and the surrounding mountains again! On a really clear day we can see them from Anchorage, but they are far enough away that you really don’t get a clear picture of just how majestic they are. The photo at the top of this post is of Mt. Hunter, the “small mountain” between Mt. McKinley and Mt. Foraker. Ha! Click HERE to see a photo of all three.

Well, I better hush and mush and get ready for church.

Blessings all!

Majestic Mt. McKinley

mckinleyHi Friends,

This was my view today!  Stunning and majestic Mt. McKinley!

Hubby and I drove out of town about 2 hours north to watch our son race at a cross country meet.  He got 3rd place overall with a new PR!  Woohoo! 🙂 I will post pictures of the race tomorrow.

For now I hope you enjoy this view that I captured today on our outing!

Blessings,

Jackie

Happy Friday & Alaska Bison!

Hi Friends,

I hope you are enjoying a nice Friday.  Mine has been pleasant and full so far.  I met with my fitness accountability partner and we set some good things in motion that should help me and my distractible mind to get more focused on my fitness goals {I’ve been doing pretty good, but not great}.  And then, back at the house, an out-of-state friend dropped by and we had a nice visit.   In just a few minutes I get to go yarn shopping for an order – yay!  🙂  And after that I will visit my dear parents.  I am also looking forward to dinner with my dear daughter tonight, just us girls.  In between I will be dropping off some fingerless gloves to a sweet friend.  Yep, a full and fun day.  What joy!

I thought it would be fun to post some more Alaska pictures today.  These are from my outing to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center {about an hour from Anchorage} with my sister and niece in June.   They provide wonderful habitats for many animals, but today I am just including a couple of pictures of Alaska Wood Bison…and the amazing landscape!

So don’t forget to put this spot on your Alaska Bucket List.  I am sure you will want to visit when you come up next summer.  😉

Blessings!

Alaska Bucket List

image

Hi Friends,

Monday has flown by for me.  How about you?

So, you know how you’re planning a trip to Alaska next summer, right?  Right.  😉  Well, you will want to visit The Bake Shop in Girdwood, Alaska, for sure!  The food and surroundings are fabulous and it’s less than an hour from Anchorage.  Plus the scenic drive along the Turnagain Arm {of Cook Inlet} is a beautiful bonus!

I am going to let the pictures do most of the “talking”, but I have to say that my favorite things to order are the delicious and savory soups (with a homemade roll), and their amazing BLTs!  But, really, I haven’t had a bad meal there ever.  If you’re not sure about the soup, just ask for a little sample.  They are happy to oblige.

And then there’s the flowers and the view.  Both are incredible! Not to mention hiking, biking and hang gliding right next door! {And of course awesome alpine and Nordic skiing and snowboarding in winter. }

So keep saving your pennies and put Alaska and The Bake Shop on your bucket list!

Joyfully,

Jackie

Missing Joy

5

Hi Friends,

It is time to share this because a number of my friends (and maybe you or someone you know) are struggling.

There was a time when I did not feel the joy I once had and that I have now.   In fact, I was on my knees asking God for help in my situation.  He was there to help me and also reveal to me what I needed to work on.

One day during this painful journey, I went for a walk and in my heart I cried out to God, asking again for his help.  My countenance was low, but He lifted my eyes and they fell upon the mountains surrounding my home.  Immediately He brought to mind one of my very favorite passages from the Bible and in the midst of my pain, I felt hope.  Here is that passage:

Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

———————–>

*There were other passages He reminded me of during this time and they also gave me encouragement.

Deuteronomy 31:8

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

———————–>

There are many more passages like them, but these are the ones God specifically used in my life to strengthen me for the battle…and the victory.

Maybe you are struggling right now.  I pray that this encourages you.  There is hope and God loves you.

…And joy returns.

Psalm 30:5b

…Weeping may stay for the night,
but rejoicing comes in the morning.

With love & JOY,

Jackie

Remembering the View – Sunset Late Fall 2012

1

Hi Friends,

I snapped these photos late last Fall while returning home from a weekend trip with my hubby.  When I uploaded them I was stunned at how beautifully my cell phone camera had captured each scene.

These photos were all taken between Girdwood and Anchorage on the Turnagain Arm.

No, Alaska’s beauty does not disappoint.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Joyfully,

Jackie

Farewell to Fireweed…and Summer

image

Hi Friends,

Does fireweed mark time where you live?  It definitely does here in Alaska.

I love a landscape filled with fireweed blooms. They are so beautiful and in one of my favorite colors.  Once it blooms here in the summer, it is truly lovely…but we keep watch:

How far are the blooms down the stem now?
The top blooms are starting to fade away…
Now there are barely any blooms left…
Summer is almost over…

Here we are at the beginning of September and summer is a wonderful memory. The fireweed is all bloomed out except for a few rogue flowers that seem to be rebelling against the passing of time. They, too, will be gone soon.

I love Fall and the unique beauty and routine it brings. But I will miss the vibrant colors of summer, the easier pace, the warmth, and the splendid {albeit time-marking} fireweed flowers.

Have a blessed Labor Day {& Autumn}!

Joyfully,

Jackie

My hubby and I are home now after a lovely and quick overnight trip.  Here are two more collages of our views while we were out and about.  I did some yarn shopping and crocheting as well so I promise to write a crochet post next for all my hooky friends. 🙂

Blessings!
