Whew! What a month!

Hi Friends!

What a month!  LOTS of things going on.  My highlights have been celebrating dear daughter’s and hubby’s birthdays and going on a 2 week adventure that included a Children’s Ministry conference in Orlando, getting to go to Magic Kingdom & Epcot and visiting my beloved sister and her sweet family in southwest Mississippi!  I hope to have time soon to give a full report.  But for now, here is a photo that captured a favorite memory of mine:

A Feast for the Eyes!

Hi Friends,

There’s a shop downtown that I love to visit around the holidays!  It’s called Kimball’s (aka The Kobuk).  HERE is a little history on it that I just dug up, in case you are interested. 🙂 The document says that the store closed in 2002.  However, it reopened as The Kobuk – specializing in gifts, treats and fine teas.

Well, today was my first “holiday” visit of the year.  They have a little corner dedicated to Thanksgiving with some lovely items, and a large part of the store dedicated to Christmas goodies of all sorts. Heaven.  They also carry many varieties of yummy teas and tea accessories.  Better and better.  Today I came away with a super cute hat {to go with my new, oh-so-warm coat} and a Christmas pin that reads ‘JOY’ {of course}.  🙂

Here is the pictorial tour for your viewing pleasure.   {Photos were taken with my phone camera.  Some are slightly out of focus, but they still capture the surroundings.}  A definite feast for the eyes!  Enjoy!

Joyfully,

Jackie

High & Low

blog - boot cuff patternHi Friends,

High point (at least one of them): This past Thursday, Friday and Saturday I sold 4 to 5 patterns a day. Wow! What a blessing! I keep getting sales everyday, but those were my high days. 🙂

Low point: Recently took my car in to get fixed 2 weeks in a row and the total has cost approximately $2500. Not fun. The low point came today when it was discovered that the same issue (coolant draining out of my car) that was suppose to be fixed the second week, is happening again. Ugh. Kinda took the wind out of my sails. Hubby gets back tomorrow from his out of town job so he will “take it from here.” I just want this to be over. Will try to focus on “this too shall pass.”

Well, gotta hush and mush and do a little more tidying of the nest before hubby gets home. 🙂 Hope you have a great Monday!

Blessings,

Jackie

These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things…

Hi Friends,

One of my family’s all time favorite movies is Sound of Music.   We’ve watched it with the kids since dear daughter was the same age as the youngest Von Trapp daughter and now she is older than the oldest one!  Through the years it’s been fun for her to relate to each girl closest to her age.  She would even sing and dance like Maria and throw the curtains around her head during the scene where she had decided to make the children play clothes out of her old drapes.  Sadly, ours were a lot like Maria’s only in oranges and browns!  We inherited them when we bought our house years ago. They are gone now, thankfully!

One of the great songs in the movie is Maria’s “Favorite Things” song when all the children are huddled on her bed frightened from a nighttime storm.  That’s what gave me the idea for the blog post title.   🙂

Today I am posting a few of my favorite things:  Things I collect or have received as gifts, actually.

  • The figurines are Willow Tree pieces.  Most of them were given to me by my sweeties.  I also have the Nativity that I display on the shelf at Christmas time.
  • The beautiful little glass goblets are heirlooms from my husbands side of the family.  They are so delicate that I am afraid to drink out of them so I use them for candle holders here.
  • The shelf holds my salt and pepper shakers that Grandpa gave me when Grandma passed away (on my mom’s side).  She had collected way over 1,000 pairs!  We loved to go to their house as kids and gaze at all the different ones and she could tell us where each one came from and who had given it to her.  Special memories!
  • I also love quilts and dear hubby surprised me with this one after a trip to help a friend in Missouri one time.
  • The two special photographs are of my parents (in the tall frame) and hubby’s parents on their wedding days.

I guess you can tell by this little grouping of special things that I am a sentimental girl that likes to decorate in a homey, warm style.

So, what are some things you cherish or like to collect?  Do share!

Joyfully,

Jackie

Hi Friends,

I may finally be getting the hang of continental style knitting! I am practicing on this ribbed scarf. It is making more sense than before and my fingers are working the way they are suppose too. Thank you, Lord! Maybe this ‘crochet girl’ will be able to knit after all!!

Here is a Youtube video showing this style. Click HERE for link.  Which way do you enjoy knitting?

Now here’s hoping I get better at deciphering knit patterns!

Okay, off to my day job!

Blessings,

Jackie

Fun With Photos

Hi Friends,

I have recently discovered 2 iPad photo apps that I am having fun with. One is AutoPainter HD and the other is Popsicolor. AutoPainter HD “turns photos into authentic looking paintings” with 4 different styles. And with Popsicolor you can “add a splash of watercolor to any photo”.

Do you have any photo apps you love? If so, do tell.

Blessings,

Jackie

Hi Friends,

Do you subscribe to any e-magazines?  I’m not even sure that’s what they’re called.  🙂  I purchased the Prevention magazine app for my iPad.  That’s the only one I get, probably because I’m too cheap to buy more when I can find a lot of info for free on the internet.  But I am really liking having this in the e-magazine format. The articles have been interesting and informative and look at those vivid photos!   Anyway, just had to share… 😉

My favorite collage, of course, is the second one of my son at his race today.  He ran a 5K race and set a personal record. Woohoo! And hence, the big smile.  I surely do love that young man!

What kind of views did you have today?

Blessings,

Jackie

An Amazing Day & A Favorite View

Hello friends, Today was pretty amazing.  I attended the live simulcast of the Global Leadership Summit at our satellite location.  It is going on tomorrow as well.  The speakers today were powerful!  Click HERE to jump over to the highlights.  General Colin Powell was just one of the awesome speakers! One of the mottos of the summit is: Everyone wins when a leader gets better. So true!

And because I love to share photos on my posts here is a photo that I have always loved {and yes, it is totally unrelated to the first part of my post and I’m okay with that}. 🙂 I’ve always loved the bond between these two.

Blessings,
Jackie

Today’s Yummy Northern Cottage View…

Hi Friends!

Chicken Noodle Soup is on the menu tonight.  Just sounds yummy and plus I have some chicken I need to use up.

And let me tell you about the coolest thing!  See the beautiful fabric “bowl” that the soup bowl is in?  I love it!  You can put your soup in the microwave and reheat it {or hot cereal, veggies – whatever!} using one of these “microwav-a-bowls” and you never burn your fingers transporting it to the table.  Brilliant!  I met a sweet gal named Kayleen on one of the Etsy teams and she designed and sells them.  I bought one, fell in love, and then I bought 4 more!

I messaged Kayleen about highlighting her bowls on my blog and she was thrilled!  {She thinks she’s famous now – hee hee.}  She said that  if any of my bloggie friends buys 4 bowls {or 4 potato bags} you will get a 5th one free.  Just mention me and my blog.  The offer is good through August.  If you are interested, click HERE to head on over to her shop {Kitch-n-Stitch} and check out her great stuff.  They make great gifts too!  And I don’t get any kick backs.  Just sharing the love. 🙂

Blessings! ~ Jackie
