Crochet Inspirations

“The application of crochet for useful and ornamental purposes is so varied, that it is work which will remain popular, in one form or other, for years to come.”*

This sentiment is as true today as it was when it was written in 1884!

One of my heart warming childhood memories is of my Grandma Sylvia thread crocheting the most amazing room divider panels. They must have taken her what seemed like a million years to complete, but the results were stunning! She and Grandpa lived in an old fashioned schoolhouse-turned-private-home in the scenic Oregon countryside filled with many treasures and adventures! I’ll never forget exploring all throughout that house and playing hide and seek among her beautiful handmade quilts and thread crochet doilies and bedspreads. And we would push through the crocheted room divider panels every time we entered her living room from the entry area where they were eventually hanging. I never ceased to be impressed with those crochet panels and all the handiwork Grandma accomplished!

My Grandma Dora was an artist as well. She was one of my best friends and I loved to watch her oil paint lovely scenes on canvas, in the back room of her ranch style California home, that would eventually sell for hundreds of dollars.

These beautiful women inspired my artistic nature as we lived life together when I was young. Today I am inspired by the other talented people God has put into my life and the artistry of my Creator as I live among the beauty of Alaska, my home for over 30 years.

So who or what inspires you?

Joyfully, Jackie

  1. Jackie, I am really enjoying your blog and I thought I’d drop you a note. My left-handed grandma, taught me at a young age, to knit. I think of her and the hours we spent together working thru the knots, dropped stitches and the finished item, each time I pick up my yarn and needles. I’ve never taken up crochet, you make beautiful items, I’ll need to get an order in for the newest fingerless gloves! Thanks, Leslie

    • Hi Leslie, Thanks for your note! I’m so glad you enjoy the blog. It is fun to connect with people this way. You will love those fingerless gloves! I am having so much fun making them. I don’t have a bunch of colors listed, but you can pretty much request what you’d like and it should be available. Hugs!
P.S. That’s pretty nifty about learning to knit from your left-handed grandma.
